Ethical e-book Over the past 17 years, Australian Market and Social Research Society professional standards convener Jayne Van Souwe has written a regular column for Research News, in which she provides advice to members who approach her with ethical dilemmas and curly questions. Her responses provide practical guidance to members about how to apply the Code of Professional Behaviour and the industry specific privacy principles. Those columns have been compiled into one place. The e-booklet is easy to search and thoroughly cross-referenced, making it an indispensable tool for today's market and social researcher. It's like the Cook's Companion for the research professionals, although it doesn't weigh as much! All Members are entitled to receive the e-books as a PDF, free of charge. For non-members or anyone wanting a copy of it on CD, you can order it here . Statistic e-book Like the successful Ethics e-book, which was first released in 2008, the Statistics e-book is a compilation of all the statistics columns published in Research News over the past five years. The statistics column was first launched in mid 2004 and has proven to be essential reading for researchers around the country. Following anecdotal reports that researchers were referring back to the column in training programs, the Society decided to publish the e-book so that it would be quicker and easier to reference the columns, either for personal professional development or in formal settings. The contributors to the Statistics e-book include: - Gerrie Roberts, who lectures in statistics in the Monash University MBA program and is a senior analyst at Forethought Research
- Scott MacLean, who works at Nulink Analytics and is a member of the Research News editorial advisory group
- Tim Bock, who is managing director of Numbers and adjunct research fellow of the Australian School of Business
- John Rossiter, research professor at the University of Wollongong
- Alan Simpson, principal analyst at Forethought Research.
‘Special thanks must go to Gerrie Roberts, who has been our most regular contributor over the past five years, and has delivered many thought-provoking pieces to stimulate discussion in the profession,' said AMSRS executive director Elissa Molloy. ‘Gerrie also generously dedicated many hours of her time to ordering, indexing and proofreading this e-book.' Professionally, Roberts combines her two passions as a vocational educator in statistics at Monash University and as a practitioner advising some of the region's best regarded services companies. She has lectured in statistics for more than 18 years and, as a senior analyst at Forethought Research, she has worked on the application of multivariate statistics across a range of industries for many years. All Members are entitled to receive the e-books as a PDF, free of charge. The Statistics e-book will be e-mailed to all members on 30th April 2010, at which time a CD will become available for sale to non members. Anyone wishing to purchase a CD can order it here . You are welcome to complete the order form for the Statistics CD now, but please note we will not be able to send it to you until April 2010.
